Amelia Earhart

Unit 1, Amelia Earhart, delves into the life, legacy, and accomplishments of one of aviation’s most iconic figures. Students will explore Earhart's early life, her passion for flight, and the challenges she overcame as a woman in a male-dominated field. The unit highlights her groundbreaking achievements, including becoming the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic and setting numerous aviation records. Through detailed lessons, students will also examine Earhart’s 1937 world flight attempt, and the lasting impact of her courage, determination, and advocacy for women in aviation. This unit will inspire students to reflect on Earhart's legacy and how they can become the pilot in command of their journey.

02

Technology 1937 vs. 2027

The second unit compares aviation technology from 1937 to 2027, providing students with a comprehensive overview of the remarkable advancements in flight over the past 90 years. Students will explore the aircraft, engines, and navigation systems used during Amelia Earhart’s time, including the challenges and limitations pilots faced in 1937. The unit will then shift focus to 2027, examining modern innovations such as advanced materials, fuel efficiency, and cutting-edge navigation technology like GPS and NEXRAD. Through hands-on activities and discussions, students will analyze how technological advancements have enhanced the safety, speed, and sustainability of flying. This unit encourages critical thinking about the future of aviation, as students consider what the next 90 years might hold for air travel.

This third component explores both the physics and history of flight, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of how and why we fly. The unit covers the fundamental principles of flight, including lift, thrust, drag, and weight, explaining how these forces interact to enable flight. Students will also examine the contributions of early pioneers, such as the Wright brothers, and how their innovations laid the groundwork for modern aviation. It will also dive into key milestones, from the first powered flight to major advancements in aircraft design, navigation, and propulsion systems. Through hands-on experiments and case studies, students will gain a practical understanding of aerodynamics while appreciating the historical context that shaped the aviation industry. This unit empowers students to see flight not just as a modern marvel, but as the result of centuries of scientific discovery and technological evolution.

04

Geography

Unit 4 will dive into world geography, learning about the culture, history, and other aspects of various countries visited by both Earhart's 1937 flight and World Flight 2027. Students will have a better understanding of not only world geography but of its people, and in doing so, hopefully decrease the spread of cultural ignorance.

World Flight '37 & '27

World Flight 1937 v. 2027 will have students comparing both flights, following along and interacting with World Flight 2027! At the end of this unit, students will have a better understanding of Amelia Earhart's flight, her plans and preparations, and the current flight, at that time, already underway. And they will be able to create a flight path of their own, whether it's a flight around the world or to whatever adventure awaits them!

Experience history like never before. World Flight 2027 will honor, celebrate, and remember an icon who had a message to the people of the world. This flight will introduce Amelia and her spirit to a new generation.
